Coding for Creatives
Have you have ever wanted to create a piece of art or design something using digital tools as a medium? But didn't know where to start? Then this course is for you. You might want to generate your own automatic drawing program, manipulate the pixels on a digital photo or create a real-time data visualisation. This course will get you started and is intended for anyone with no previous experience of coding.
On the course you
will be introduced to the fundamentals of creative coding whilst making your
own graphical project. This course is intended for artists, designers or anyone
who would like to learn more about the basics of digital tools and expand their
digital literacy.
Using the programming languages Processing and Javascript you will learn how to control all the main graphical elements that make up a programs visual outputs. Altering colours, manipulating shapes and designing your own unique patterns. The course will then progress to allow participants to explore repetition, randomness and how to create interaction in their projects.

About the tutor: Jonathan is a practising artist with many years of experience of teaching coding for creatives. He holds an MFA from Goldsmiths in Computational Studio Arts and has worked with several EdTech start ups to design and build creative coding curriculum which are now taught to thousand's of students ever year. He teaches MA students at the Royal School of Speech and Drama how to incorporate sensors and coding into live performance practice. He often uses digital tools in his practice and is interested to expand what is possible for his own creative expression.
